Happy Friday! Link Party and Raw Challenge Recap

February 5, 2010 By Mandi

Hey y’all! Hope you had a good week full of love and health! Here are some recaps and link love to get this weekend started off right.

30 Days of Raw Challenge: Week One Recap

Technically it has only been 5 days, but I can already feel the effects of eating 100% raw. First, to quell the most popular question I have gotten so far, “Aren’t you hungry all the time?” – the answer is a loud and clear NO. I have been eating such dense and nutritious foods that my body is easily satiated. I am even able to judge when I am full better than when I am eating cooked foods. But, cravings? Hell yeah. Right now I would murder for rice noodles. Seriously. Some would argue that my body is currently detoxing itself from rice noodles and that’s why I am craving them. Whatever the cause, I am seriously about to turn ravenous, and I’m not even hungry! It is strange the power that processed foods hold over you.

I was tired for the first few days, but last night my energy picked up and now I feel great. My skin looks pretty good, but that might just be the fact that the raw food I have been eating is 100%  gluten free.  Strangely enough I have not lost any weight. I know it has only been 5 days, but I was under the impression that weight loss on a raw diet was pretty profound. I guess we will see!

The only thing I would change about this challenge is that I would have planned it in the Spring or Summer. It is hard to eat cold foods when it is freezing outside. Also, fruits and veggies are less abundant in the winter. I hate buying produce out of season, but since most recipes call for zucchini, I find myself buying those uber-expensive, tiny, pathetic zucchinis from some far away land. I feel bad about this. Any tips from seasoned raw foodies?

    Awesome links, as always!

It’s amazing how full you can get from healthy raw food. My advice is eat lots of avocados! 🙂

As well as having asked you in person if you were hungry, (and BTW, I asked becasue you said you thought you’d be hungry, natch) I am wondering if you aren’t missing nice, hot soups and warm meals during this unseasonably, snowy time here?

YES! This is possibly the worst time I could have ever picked to go raw.
