Product Review: Treeline Treenut Cheese

April 23, 2015 By Dianne

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPeople often say that they could never go vegan because they love cheese too much. That excuse might have worked 10 years ago, but it won’t really float today, since there are so many amazing non-dairy cheeses available now. One of my favorites is Treeline Treenut Cheese. This isn’t the kind of cheese you would grate and melt over pizza, but rather the type that you serve with fancy crackers and olives at a cocktail party, which is exactly what I recently did.

Treeline cheeses are made from cashews, acidophilus cultures, water, sea salt, and herbs and spices. They’re all gluten-free, non-gmo, raw, and of course, dairy-free. They are all artisan-made in New York’s Hudson Valley. Treeline Cheese is available in two styles – Soft French-Style and Aged.

Soft French-Style Nut Cheeses

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe French-Style cheeses are tangy and creamy. They’re perfect for spreading on crusty bread, crackers, or even bagels, and they pair well with vegetables and fruit too.

Herb-Garlic – This cheese is flavored with fine herbs and garlic and has a complex flavor, similar to Boursin cheese I ate in my pre-vegan days. It was my favorite of the bunch until I opened the package of Scallion Cheese.

Scallion – The Scallion Soft French-Style Cheese has a tangy bite and is made with chopped scallions. It reminds me of a fancy version of scallion cream cheese, but I think it’s actually too good to serve with cheap bagels.

Chipotle-Serrano – This cheese has is flavored with chipotle morita flakes and smoky serrano peppers for a spicy-smoky flavor. It has little kick of heat along with a citrusy tang.

Green Peppercorn – This cheese is flavored with cracked green peppercorns and has a mild peppery flavor.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAged Nut Cheeses

Aged Nut Cheeses are firm and sliceable. They’re perfect for serving on cheese plates or grating over salads and pastas.

Classic Aged Nut Cheese – This cheese is tangy and slightly smoky. It’s a hard cheese, yet it has the creamy texture I remember from dairy-cheese. I’ve been grating it over salads and snacking on it with apple slices.

Cracked Pepper Aged Nut Cheese – The Cracked Pepper Aged Cheese is similar to the Classed Aged Cheese, but it has pepper blended in, and it’s been dusted with pepper as well. The spice of the pepper offsets the tanginess of the cheese nicely.

I served Treeline Cheese at a recent gathering with friends and it was devoured. Not only is it a perfect treat for vegans, but those with lactose-intolerance will love it too. In fact, I can’t image any cheese-lover not enjoying Treeline Treenut Cheese!

I love savory! If this were on a table at a party and I ate it, I would love it. I have never had nut spreads before, I really didn’t think it (scallion flavor) would be good, but I am pleasantly surprised, it is not only good, I like it better then many real cheese spreads. I love that it is tasty AND free of many things I don’t want to eat, (gmo, gf and df). Thank you for making this delightful spread.
