Product Review: Dr McDougall’s Ready To Serve Soups

September 7, 2011 By Mandi

We preach the slow-food path here at Chic Vegan. But sometimes life gets in the way and convenience food is a welcome addition to our lives. I was recently sent a huge sample pack of Dr McDougall’s Right Foods Ready To Serve Soup to review. Other than being very generous, Right Foods really does convenience food right.

Let’s be honest here – canned soups are gross. I have always avoided them at all costs. But these soups are totally different. They come in BPA free carton packages, are non-gmo and are totally whole foods based. When I poured these soups out of the container, it was unlike any other prepared soup I had ever experienced. It looked like REAL FOOD – like something I had made a few days before and was now reheating. If you have ever lived off of canned soups like I have (ahem..college.) you will truly understand my appreciation for this fact.

They are delicious too! I am sort of ashamed to say that I have already eaten all of them. My favorites are Tortilla, Lentil, and the Garden Vegetable. They also have Black Bean, Tomato, Minestrone, and Split Pea. A few flavors are available in Low Sodium which astoundingly taste absolutely no different than their saltier companions.

Dr. McDougall himself is a huge advocate for a plant based, whole foods diet and a  leading voice in the field of natural wellness. You may have seen him in Forks Over Knives or you may have read one of his books. Knowing that I am eating foods that have been carefully put together by this man, takes the blow out of eating something from a box.

I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled that companies like this are proving that you can created packaged food for mass consumerism without using added sugars, GMO ingredients, processed foods, and preservatives. Hooray for Right Foods… I’ll be stocking up.
