Product Review: SoCal Curls Hair Ties

Product Review: SoCal Curls Hair Ties

June 21, 2016 By Katie Dawson

As someone with unruly hair that won’t hold curls, I have always longed for those soft, beautiful curls that every celebrity seems to achieve effortlessly.  Now, I know those celebrities have teams of hair professionals, products, and services at their fingertips, but still a girl can dream for the perfect curls, right?  That’s why I was excited to get to try SoCal Curls and see if I could finally get those curls I have envied for so long.

SoCal Curls is a hair tie that was created by two moms with girls in high school show choir.  While chaperoning an event, they noticed that all the girls had long hair that they wore in curls for their events but it took forever to curl with curling irons and the girls were damaging their hair with all the heat.  After a lot of brainstorming and testing, they came up with the SoCal hair tie.  Each hair tie is filled with an organic mix that you can heat in the microwave

Product Review: SoCal Curls Hair TiesEach hair tie is filled with an organic mix that retains heat.  All you have to do is put it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then tie it around your head and wrap damp or dry hair around the tie.  After about 30 minutes you have soft beachy waves and if you leave it in longer like overnight you’ll have tighter more dramatic curls.

When I first got the SoCal Curls hair tie, I was a little skeptical because it looked complicated and I am not very talented when it comes to my hair.  Luckily, the website has a great video tutorial that shows you exactly how to use the hair tie and after a few practice tries, I got the technique down.  The results were pretty good too!  It worked better on my hair when I left it a little damp and kept it in for a longer amount of time.  Whenever I’ve used hair rollers in my hair overnight, it was always uncomfortable and bumpy but the SoCal Curls was actually really comfortable.

The hair ties also come in a variety of styles and fabrics so you can choose the one you like and actually wearing yourProduct Review: SoCal Curls Hair Ties hair up in the hair tie is a cute style itself!  The website also has ideas on a few other styles and an FAQ page that can help you get the best results from your hair.  While I was happy with the way the SoCal Curls hair tie curled my hair, by the end of the day they were a little flat.  That being said, my curls lasted a lot longer than they have before and if I had used a little product I’m sure they would have stayed in longer.

If you’re looking for a less-damaging way to curl your hair then I think the SoCal Curls hair ties are a great way to go.  They are fairly easy to use, create nice curls, and good for a variety of hairstyles!
