Conscientious Coats – Lots of Them!

September 15, 2009 By Mandi

It appears that the cold weather is coming much more quickly than most of us would like. But hey, who can argue with mother nature? Being the bright-side looker that I am, I have decided its better to concentrate on all the good things about the inevitable chilly weather. Things like soup, sweaters, holiday gatherings, hot tea and snowy days.  Whether we like it or not, the cold is right around the corner. That means we now need stuff to keep us warm.  Luckily this year vegan fashion is on steroids and we have more choices than ever! It is so exciting! We have gone from our only option being a flimsy, boxy, fleece, pea-coat-looking-thing to having the choice from an incredible array of gorgeous couture and warm, stylish outerwear.

The Vaute by Vaute Couture
For the couture lover with a lot of money to spend is the much coveted  Vaute Coat by Vaute Couture. All proceeds from this adorable coat go to Farm Sanctuary. This beauty is vegan, eco-friendly, and made in Chicago. It also claims to be windproof, heat retaining, and water resistant, which means its warm, warm, warm!

Apparently, plaid is all the rage this year. If your digging the lumberjack style Pacsun has some good candidates. The Winchester by Hurley(top), the Runaway Buffalo Jacket by O’Neil(middle) and the Reese Too Hoodie by Roxy(bottom) are all adorable and sporty, for your everyday adventures.

mcelroyfrancis
Spiewak has some incredibly warm, comfy and stylish coats this year. The McElroy Parka (top), and the Francis (bottom) are  scorching hot.

vikki
I love the slim, sleek style of The Vikki Jacket by Rojas. The funnel neck makes me happy.

[…] While these practices are common in 80% of Australian wool production, it is almost always impossible to know where your wool item has originated from. Sheep-butt Friendly As always, polyester is a convenient option. Many organic bamboo materials also do well at mimicking the fuzzy wool texture. Eco friendly boutiques such as Modcloth, Greenloop, BTCElements, and Nimli have great selections of non-wool sweaters and pullovers. The only time when avoiding wool becomes especially tiresome is while looking for a winter coat. However, this year I have found that are many more options than usual. Check out a pretty extensive list of vegan-friendly winter coats here. […]
