I missed that episode, but am also surprised that no one knew what a vegan was.  Hopefully the show helped to educate a few more people.

each team had to make sandwiches and sell them? And in walks Russell Simmons to
the women’s sandwich store and he asks for a vegan sandwich and none of the
women knew what that was. So someone got some tofu, sliced it and made him a
sandwich. Personally with all the vegans in NYC I was SHOCKED no one knew what a
vegan sand which was. Even here in the Sierras near Angels Camp people know.
